Measuring Your Pupillary Distance (PD)
Accurate Pupillary Distance (PD) ensures your lenses are centred correctly for clear, comfortable vision. Follow these steps to measure PD at home or with assistance.
What is PD?
Pupillary Distance is the distance in millimetres between the centres of your pupils. It is a key measurement for prescription glasses and sunglasses.
Step 1: Prepare Your Tools
Use a millimetre ruler, a mirror, and good lighting. Having a friend help can increase accuracy.
Step 2: Measuring
Stand approximately 30cm from the mirror. Align the ruler with the centre of your left pupil, close your left eye, then note the position of your right pupil.
Step 3: Repeat for Accuracy
Measure a few times to ensure consistency. Average the results if needed to get your true PD.
Step 4: Record Your PD
Write down your PD in millimetres. For many adults, PD ranges from 54mm to 74mm, and for children, 43mm to 58mm.
Pro Tip
Use your optician’s PD measurement when available, especially for complex prescriptions or progressive lenses.
Ordering Glasses with Confidence
Once you have your PD, you can order glasses online knowing your lenses will be accurately aligned for optimal vision and comfort.
